Shantell Martin: First solo show opens tonight

Remember the artist Shantell Martin whose bedroom and hand-drawn world I wrote about for The New York Times? Her first solo show opens tonight at—how appropriate—Black & White Gallery in Brooklyn. The opening reception is from 7-10 pm, so swing by to see her installation that sprawls all over the walls plus outside on the courtyard walls. I'll be there.

This isn't a show of framed art, by the way; she was given the gallery's white space to do as she wished, so she's been drawing every day for weeks. I got a sneak peak this week and there's some new experimental styles, as well as a collaboration or two. There may or may not be something like a door prize, and that's all I'll say.
